Our 2 PRO-members of the team, Olivier Godart (new recrutee from the last transfer period) and David Claerebout, aligned at the inaugural triathlon in Dubai [UAE] covering the middle distance of 1.9-90-21km.
The swim was held in calm water off the Atlantis. The cycling portion of the event went along Hessa Street to Dubai Sports City and back. The run was along the crescent of Palm Jumeirah.
About 280 athletes from 63 countries have flown into the Emirates for the race with more than 800 residents taking part, including Dubai army and police employees.
Besides some of the best long distance triathletes of the world, like Chris McCormack (2-times winner of IM Hawaii) and David Plese (3rd in the IM Austria race in June and 2nd in the Ironman Switzerland), Formula-1 driver Lucas di Grassi or Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, a member of the Bahraini royal family, David and Olivier showed a great performance in their first race under Pro-licence.
Olivier Godart finished on an excellent 4th rank overall in 4:06:32 followed by David Claerebout in 6th position (4:18:42). Incredible bike time from Olivier – 2nd overall bike split in 2:07:28 !!! What an average!
The race was won by David Plese [SLO] in 3:58:18, followed by Till Schramm [GER] in 4:02.07, while Ireland’s Kevin Thornton was 3rd in 4:04.08.
