The first edition of the Freelander’s Cross-Duathlon is history!
83 athletes from 7 up to 54 years enjoyed this new race under extremely good weather conditions.
Starting with the youngest contestants (a big starting field of 17 kids from 7-9years), they had to run and ride the MTB on a large field, sometimes with difficulties as the underground was a little bit bumpy – nevertheless, all of the kids showed some good performances and were happy to receive a medal to honour their efforts.
At 15:00h, 38 athletes took the start for the main race covering a distance of 6.0-18.4-3.2km. The first 2-loop run part was dominated by David Claerebout (LUX-X3M MERSCH) who took a 50sec lead to his followers Romaric Delepine (FRA / METZ TRIATHLON), Dany Papi (LUX-CA BELVAUX) and Mathieu Paolillo (FRA-ST.AVOLD).
Once on the bike, Romaric Delepine, who is one of the best MTB-riders in France, showed a great performance and took the lead of the race by 2min 30sec. He was followed by Christian Schmit (LUX-RC PFAELZERWALD) and Stephane Rit (FRA-ESCM).
The second 3.2km run was once again dominated by David Claerebout, but finally it was Romaric Delepine who won this first edition of the race in 1h16:21 leading D. Claerebout by 34sec and Mathieu Paolillo by 1min 49sec.
Only 3 women were aligned in the women’s field. The race was dominated from the beginning by Elise MAES (LUX-CAD Dudelange) who finished in 1h42:44. Second rank goes to Julie Thull with a backlog of more than 18min. Unfortunately, the junior contestant Nina GORGES (LUX-CA BELVAUX) felt on the bike and had to quit the race.
